Silk Painting
Silk painting was another medium i tried for a while. I created various pieces but then stopped as i felt more and more resistance towards using silk because of the way it is harvested. i know there are methods where the butterfly is allowed to grow and come out of the cocoon ,but traditionally the larva are cooked alive so as not to damage the silk thread. Just like i wont eat lobster or mussels, or anything that needs to be boiled alive, i don’t buy silk. It just feels wrong.
i did come up with another way to create a similar effect but then with paper ,but i have not continued with this project.
All the designs you see below are traced and some slightly modified from existing designs. I also made my own designs but those are all sold.
